Fabric Shops in the Macedon Ranges

Welcome to the second leg of our Fabric Acquisition Road Trip ’round the quilt stores of Australia! This portion of our journey is quite dear to my heart as this is “my” area!

Macedon ranges reeks of old world charm, country hospitality and gorgeous quilts stores to boot, these 4 little fabric store gems in the Macedon Ranges are the kind of quilt stores where the owners make you feel like immediate friends.

Ready for the second leg of our Fabric Acquisition Road Trip…? AND find some epic new fabric stores?

This really all started because I’m a sucker for a good acronym, particularly when it’s inline with my semi-crude humour! So if you missed it, we’ve “FARTED” around Adelaide so far (hahaha see? so immature hahah)  You can read about it here.

And as our Fabric Acquisition Road Trip continues, we will be heading to Sydney and Melbourne so stay tuned, or sign-up so you don’t miss this epic blog series that is celebrating Australian Quilt Stores and the FART!

Country Victoria and Quilting

I love LOVE this part of Australia. Like I said, I live close by so i may be a little bias. Autumn is a gorgeous time of year to be out this way, leaves are changing and the air is crisp, pubs with open fires, luscious lattes in cute cafes…. *SWOON*

Add in a couple of quilt shops and fabric stores and this girl in is heaven!

As you might expect out in this country area, there is not a fabric store on every corner. The quantity of outlets may be on the low side, but the quality is about as high as you can get.

Take four quilt stores all just a short drive apart, add a coffee & cake break, then lunch and perhaps a cheeky mid afternoon tipple at one of the amazing local wineries, and you’ve got yourself THE PERFECT day trip!

The lovely Mary from Patch “N” Quilt is living her dream of owning a fabric store! Treat yourself to a trip to her lovely shop and not only will you have a gorgeous selection of quilting fabrics, books and patterns, but the quilts she has on display (most of which she makes herself!) are inspirational.

Mary has a great eye for colour and mixes lots of her own little precut packs. She also has a great range of Kaffe Fasset, Cotton & Steel and  Amy Butler.

You’ll notice at the rear of Mary’s store, there’s always a few quilting bodies bustling in the back room. Quilting get togethers and lessons are held here from time to time. Check in store for details and bookings.

Alice In Fabricland – 14 High Street, Kyneton

Open Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 4.30pm

This is the newest fabric store on the Macedon Ranges block, with the lovely Fiona opening the doors to this quilting treasure trove recently. If you dare to jump down the rabbit hole that is Alice In Fabricland you’ll find a spacious store with a distinctive retro feel that makes me feel like I’ve gone back in time to my Grandma’s house! In a GOOD way people! The retro vibe is super comforting and feels like home is what I mean!

However Fiona’s choice of fabric is anything BUT retro! Slick new bolts of Art Gallery Fabrics and a great range of Liberty, will have you feeling “old world cool” in FabricLand. I also love there range of solids that Fiona stocks, I work with a lot of solids and love stocking up here!

Millrose Quilting and Gallery – 92 Inglis Street, Ballan 3342

Sue is the face behind the Millrose Quilting and Gallery. The setting is what country cottage dreams are made of, Sue’s store is located in the old Masonic building and it drips with charm.

Filled to the brim with quilting goodies, what i love here the most is her range of Japanese linens and an underlying colour theme of RED! Sue hosts many experienced and clever quilters in providing a range of classes that can be booked on her website.

So thanks for tripping along with me in my neighbourhood. Quilt stores and fabric shops aside, Macedon Ranges really is a great place to day trip from Melbourne. And if you’re traveling from interstate, well worth the cost of a hire car for the day.

Next stop…? MELBOURNE. So get your snobby coffee drinking taste buds ready and I’ll see you there!
